A friction brake slows or stops the car by using kinetic energy into heat. There are two types of friction brakes: Drum brake and Disc brake. Drum brake is a brake that uses friction to cause the shoe or pad of the wheel to press against a spinning surface. Disc brake is used to stop or slow the rotation of the wheel.
